For the 11th day, India reports new COVID cases below 40,000 mark

On Wednesday, India’s coronavirus count remained below 40,000 for more than 10 days, it reported 31,755 new cases in the country. Last time, the 40,000-mark was breached on 28th November. Deaths count remained below the 500-mark for the 5th succeeding day and 411 casualties were reported on Wednesday.

Once again, Maharashtra reported the maximum number of cases among other states, after staying on the 2nd position the previous day. It reported 4,981 fresh cases on Wednesday. Kerala was on second position with 4,875 cases and was followed by West Bengal with 2,956 cases and Delhi with 2,463. The three states together with the national capital accounted for almost 48% of thecountry’s total number of COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. No other state has crossed the 2,000-mark in fresh cases.

Also, Maharashtra headed the state list in death count, reporting 75 deaths and was followed by Delhi with 50 casualties and West Bengal with 47 casualties. Kerala’s new case count was higher than West Bengal and Delhi but their casualties were lesser at 35.

Rajasthan recorded a little more than 1500 cases on Wednesday whereas the daily case count was between 1000 and 1500 for Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana and Gujarat. Other large states, such as Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, Bihar, Jharkhand and Punjab recorded less than a thousand fresh cases.

Smaller states and UTs the count of 729 coronavirus cases was the highest followed by Uttarakhand that reported 632 new cases. In the northeast, the case count was 100 for Manipur and Meghalaya and all other states including Assam recorded less than 100 new cases. Maharashtra and Punjab continue to lead the state list in case mortality rate. On Wednesday, the case mortality rate reported was 3.2% for Punjab and 2.6% for Maharashtra. Only, Sikkim is the other state which reported more than 2% casemortality rate.

As compared to 31,755 fresh cases reported on Wednesday, almost 37,436 people have also recovered. Active COVID-19 cases have dropped by 6,088 and reached a little more than 3.7 lakh on Wednesday.
